How to convert old vinyl records to Sprint PCS music ringtones!
This is really fun, because when
you convert really old vinyl recordings to Sprint
PCS ringtones, you can be nearly assured that nobody
else in the world has a ringtone like yours!
To convert vinyl records to wav files
(and later to QCP files as described above) you’ll
either need a computer sound card with RCA inputs,
or a device that accepts RCA inputs and then connects
to your computer through a USB cable. I prefer the
later rather than having to install a brand new sound
card in my computer. One of the devices I recommend
for doing this is the M-Audio Audiophile USB Digital
Audio Interface.
Once you have a device like this,
the rest is simple. Connect your turntable to your
stereo receiver or amplifier. Connect standard red
and white audio RCA cables to your stereo’s
OUT connection. And of course plug them in to your
USB Digital Audio Interface. Now using the sound
recording software of your choice, select your USB
Audio Interface as the recording device, press record,
and then start playing your vinyl record! Voila,
you are now recording your old vinyl record directly
to your computer through USB! When done, make sure
you save or convert your recording to a
8 kHz, 16 bit wave file for later conversion to your
QCP ringtone!
If you have a high-quality soundcard
that doesn't have RCA inputs, you can also go to your
local Radio Shack and purchase a converter to convert
your standard red and white RCA feeds coming from
your receiver or amplifier down to a standard 1/8"
computer soundcard input. This is the least expensive
way to go, but requires that you have a quality soundcard
for optimal recording quality.
Once you get good at doing this,
you could even offer a ringtone creation service to
others!
